I have irritable bowel syndrome. I
belch a lot. Should I try out a gluten free diet?
In the last few years, gluten free
diets are being hyped as a cure for all digestive problems. Part of the problem
is that the manufacturers of these gluten free products are preying on desperate
people with IBS.
Gluten free products are very expensive and usually the diet
is very restricted. Gluten free diets are meant for patients with celiac
disease. If you do not have celiac disease, then stop wasting your money on
these products; they will not help you. Of course, there are always some people
who will claim otherwise. However, these same people will also claim they have
benefit after eating dog’s poop.
People without celiac disease who consume gluten free diets have serious mental issues
and their anecdotal reports are not scientific proof that this diet works in everyone. If you really are keen on a gluten free diet, try it out and see
what happens. If your symptoms still continue after a few weeks, I would not
continue this diet.
