I am a 73 year old male and pretty
healthy. I recently had an MRI which showed spinal stenosis. My doctor says I
need surgery. Any suggestions?
At your age or any age, surgery for
spinal stenosis is not recommended. The results of surgery on the back are
horrible. You will have a miserable life. Please do not rush in for surgery.
I
would first recommend physical therapy for 6-9 months. The one thing you should
do is keep away from these back surgeons. Most of them have skills like a
butcher and others just “slash and dash.” The majority of people who undergo
back surgery are worse off.
So if you want to live a life without hassles,
start some type of exercise and omit the word surgery from your vocabulary.
